A load resistor works by simulating the electrical draw of a traditional halogen bulb, typically using 6 ohms at 50 watts of resistive load. This allows the vehicle’s lighting control system to detect the expected current draw when incandescent turn signals or brake lights are replaced with LEDs, which normally consume significantly less power. Incorrect load detection most commonly affects turn-signal circuits, where the vehicle regulates flash rate based on current draw.
