5202 Fog Light Bulbs & Conversion Kits for OEM Fog & DRL Systems
The 5202 bulb, also cross-listed as H16 Type 1, 2504 and 9009, is a single-beam 35W halogen fog light bulb using a right-angle twist-lock plastic base designed for compact bumper-mounted fog lamp housings in GM, Ford, Jeep and other North American vehicles.
Operating on a 12V automotive system with an approximately 2.9A draw, the OEM halogen version produces approximately 1100–1250 lumens at around 3200K warm white, optimized for wide, low-glare fog-beam patterns.
This collection replaces legacy halogen 5202 fog bulbs with high-efficiency LED 5202 CSP bulbs at approximately 2000 lumens, high-output 6000-lumen plug-and-play LED kits, and 35W xenon HID conversion systems at approximately 3700 lumens while preserving the OEM twist-lock base geometry and reflector alignment.
Options include 3000K selective yellow, 6000K white, and high-Kelvin HID variants for styling and are easy to install with our simple guide.
All products remain compatible with 5202/H16 Type 1 fog housings and factory wiring.
Products in This Underground Lighting 5202 Collection
1. 5202 LED Fog Light Bulbs – 2000 LM CSP Chips (PAIR)
- Output: Approximately 2000 lumens per pair
- Colors: 6000K white / 3000K yellow
- Technology: CSP LED chip-scale design
- Voltage: 12V
- Base: 5202 / H16 Type 1 twist-lock
- Application: Fog light / DRL
CSP emitters replicate halogen filament placement to preserve reflector beam shape while doubling usable fog illumination.
2. 5202 6000 LM Plug-and-Play LED Fog Light Kit (PAIR)
- Output: Approximately 6000 lumens per pair
- Color: 6000K white
- Power: High-output LED array
- Integrated driver: Stable voltage regulation
- Installation: Plug-and-play wiring harness
This LED kit increases foreground road visibility by up to approximately 5× compared to halogen while retaining OEM socket alignment.
3. 5202 HID Replacement Bulbs – 3700 LM (PAIR)
- Output: Approximately 3700 lumens
- Colors: 3000K, 6000K, 8000K, and 10000K
- Technology: Xenon HID arc capsule
- Requires: 35 W ballast
- Base: 5202 HID capsule mount
HID arc discharge produces higher intensity than halogen with strong penetration in adverse weather.
4. 5202 / H16 35 W CANBus HID Conversion Kit (PAIR)
- Complete system: HID bulbs + 35W ballasts + igniters
- Startup voltage: Approximately 23kV ignition
- Operating voltage: Approximately 85V AC
- CANBus circuitry: Helps prevent flicker and bulb-out errors
- Color options: 3000K–10000K
Designed for BCM-controlled fog and DRL circuits in Ford and GM vehicles to support stable operation without dashboard warnings.
5. 5202 vs H11 – Critical Fitment Difference
- 5202 / H16-1: Twist-lock right-angle base
- H11: Tab-lock inline base
- Sockets: Mechanically incompatible
Many fog housings look similar externally, so correct base identification is important to prevent mis-purchase.
Optical & Beam Performance
5202 bulbs are engineered for:
- Low-mounted fog reflector housings
- Wide flood beam spread
- Reduced forward glare
- Short-range illumination
Beam pattern is determined primarily by the fog housing reflector and cutoff shield, not bulb type.
CSP LED placement maintains better optical alignment than oversized multi-chip towers.
Vehicles, DRL & BCM Compatibility
5202 / H16 fog bulbs are factory-installed in applications including:
- Jeep Wrangler / Grand Cherokee
- Ford F-150 / Explorer
- Chevrolet Silverado / Tahoe
- GMC Sierra / Yukon
Verify fitment through the fog housing base or vehicle fitment lookup.
In vehicles where 5202 also functions as a Daytime Running Light, the body control module may:
- Pulse-width modulate voltage
- Monitor current draw
- Detect bulb failure
