D1S Xenon HID Headlight Bulbs for OEM Projector-Based Lighting Systems
This Underground Lighting collection is dedicated exclusively to the D1S bulb, also referred to as D1S xenon HID headlight bulbs, an OEM-standard, long-lasting high-intensity discharge (HID) light source used primarily in factory projector headlight systems.
The D1S bulb is a 35W xenon discharge lamp that produces light through an electric arc inside a xenon-filled quartz capsule, delivering significantly higher brightness and beam precision than halogen headlight bulbs.
D1S bulbs from our HID Bulbs collection are defined by their PK32d-2 metal base, ceramic arc chamber, and integrated high-voltage igniter. This distinguishes them from other HID formats such as D2S, which rely on an external igniter. Because of this integrated igniter design, D1S bulbs require a compatible 85V AC HID ballast and cannot be interchanged with D2S, D3S, or halogen bulbs. They are not plug-and-play replacements for halogen systems and should only be used in vehicles originally equipped with D1S HID headlights or in properly engineered HID retrofits.
This Collection Includes
- D1S Xenon HID Headlight Bulbs (35W): Available in 6000K white and 8000K white with a blue tint.
- D1S 5000K Extreme White Xenon HID Bulbs: Designed to balance OEM-like visibility with a cleaner white beam.
- Aftermarket D1S Ballasts (35W): Matched for 85V AC operation and integrated-igniter compatibility.
Typical D1S light output ranges from ~3200 to 3500 lumens per bulb, about 3× brighter than halogen while maintaining a sharp beam cutoff in projector housings.
Available color temperatures span 5000K to 6000K for functional night visibility and 8000K for aesthetic preference, with higher Kelvin ratings shifting beam color rather than increasing usable brightness.
D1S bulbs are most commonly used for low-beam applications in bi-xenon or static projector systems, where beam pattern control is handled by the projector lens and cutoff shield rather than the bulb itself.
Correct ballast matching, base alignment, and twist-lock installation are critical, as improper seating can cause beam distortion or glare.
The collection supports OEM replacement and aftermarket upgrade paths for vehicles from Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, and other manufacturers that specified D1S HID systems from the factory. Click here to follow our simple guide to find the right D1S bulb.
When installed as OEM-spec replacements and properly aimed, these bulbs meet DOT/SAE requirements in the US and ECE R99 standards in Europe.
