Switchback LED bulbs are specialized turn signal lights designed for dual-filament sockets. They operate in two distinct modes: bright white when running lights are active during everyday driving, then instantly switching to vibrant amber when the turn signal is engaged. Once the turn signal cycle completes, they automatically "switch back" to white. Why does my switchback light up amber as daytime running light (DRL) instead of white?

This happens because your vehicle uses the high filament (turn signal circuit) for daytime running lights rather than the low filament, which is common in specific models like Corvettes and various Toyota vehicles. To get white DRLs instead of amber yellow, simply turn on your low-beam headlights. This will switch the power to the low filament circuit, activating the white LEDs for your running lights.

If your socket has only 2 wires, it's a single-filament application that cannot support color-switching capability. No switchback bulb will display both colors in this case. If your socket has 3+ wires but still shows only one color, check that the metal contacts on the LED bulb are properly aligned and make a solid connection with your socket terminals.

The main difference between 1157 and 3157 Switchback LEDs is the base and physical design. Both provide the same white-to-amber switchback function, but 1157 bulbs have a round metal bayonet base with offset locking pins and are commonly found on older vehicles. 3157 bulbs have a flat plastic wedge base that pushes into the socket and are common on newer vehicles. Choose the type specified for your vehicle.

A 3157 switchback LED may physically fit a 3156 socket, but the switchback function will not work properly. A 3156 socket uses two wires for a single lighting function, while a 3157 switchback needs three wires to control the white running light and amber turn signal separately. Without the third circuit, the bulb cannot switch correctly between white and amber.

It can, because LED bulbs draw less power than factory incandescent bulbs, which may cause the vehicle to detect a low load and trigger hyperflash. Our 1157 Switchback LEDs solve this with a built-in resistor on the turn-signal circuit, providing the required load to help maintain the normal flash rate without an additional resistor on compatible vehicles.

Some vehicles use the turn signal circuit as the DRL circuit. In that setup, the amber LEDs can remain active during daytime running. The vehicle's circuit determines which color receives power, not the bulb alone.

A proper dual-color switchback setup needs a three-wire socket. One wire provides the ground, while the other circuits control the separate white and amber functions. A two-wire socket cannot operate both colors independently.

The switchback function depends on separate running-light and turn-signal circuits. If the vehicle combines those functions differently, the bulb may not receive the separate signals needed to return to white. Check the socket wiring and vehicle lighting design.

The original set of 3157 switchbacks I purchased for my 2016 F250 had an issue with erratic flashing and flashing white every so often. Worked with Danny and he ended up sending me a different set that work as expected. Really love the all white light look on the 2016 F250 given that the turn signals are huge on this truck.

Installed on 2010 F150 in front turn signal/parking light and they work flawlessly. White while parking lights or headlights are on, yellow or “amber” whenever turn signal or flashers/hazards are turned on. Great product, can’t find another that functions like these. No hyper flash either. Awesome.

They work fantastic. When I use the turn signals I get a “parking light out” error, but as soon as I turn them off the message goes away, and they work like normal. Worth the money in my opinion, and very pleased with what I got!

White could be a little brighter, but I still like them. They are the only built in resistor switchbacks I’ve found. Definitely recommend if you want something like this without having to wire in resistors. Plug and play and no problems or hyper flash

I search all over the web for some 3157 lights that would not require a diode and luckily clicked on the Underground Lighting link. These are GREAT. They might be a little brighter than I excepted for the amber blinker, so be ready for that. The white running light is awesome!

I bought from another vendor that stated that they had built-in resistors and eliminated hyperflash. They were not as advertised. When I talk to Danny he knew exactly the right bulbs I needed for my F-150. I installed them today and they work perfectly.
