A standard 12V 55W H7 halogen bulb has a nominal output of approximately 1,500 lumens with a ±10% tolerance. Actual road illumination also depends on the reflector or projector design, lens condition, bulb positioning, and headlight aim.

H7 HID and LED lamps differ by their ways of producing light. Light produced by HID lamps is generated by an electrical arc in a ballast-compatible lamp. LED lamps generate light by means of light-emitting diodes and instantly attain full brightness.

It all depends on your current lighting system, optics of your lamp, free space, and power supply compatibility.

These figures are not a direct measure of usable road illumination. Housing optics, emitter position, beam pattern, lens condition, and headlight aim determine how effectively the available light reaches the road.

Flickering and bulb-out warnings happen when the control unit of a car's lighting system senses electrical properties different from the original halogen bulb. A CANbus decoder, load correction or CANbus Kit may work. The correct solution depends on the vehicle because electrical monitoring systems differ between makes and models.

There are no general numbers when it comes to the service lifetime of all H7 HID or LED bulbs since it greatly depends on the characteristics of each particular device, including its design, cooling performance, electrical parameters, switching cycles, and even vibration.

As an example, for a common OSRAM H7 halogen bulb, the B3 lifetime is 330 hours, while the Tc lifetime equals 550 hours.

H7 is the designation for the kind of bulb; however, there could have been a different retainer clip, adapter ring, dust cap, and/or clearance in the housing by the automobile's manufacturer.

This means that the H7 LED bulb can have the right base, but will still need an adapter or extra space for the driver or cooling system. The H7 LED bulb assembly is bigger than a normal halogen bulb.
